I bought an Aliner!

It is with a heavy heart that I have to inform you that I no longer have the tiny camper I remodeled. After just a year of camping with it, we decided it was time to upgrade to something a little bit bigger, dare I say glampier? I am now the proud owner of a new-to-me Aliner!

The first RV we ever camped in was a 2001 Aliner Classic that we rented locally on Outdoorsy. We loved everything about the Aliner from the start. For those of you unfamiliar with Aliners, they are pop-up campers that fold up into a A-frame shape. Unlike traditional pop-ups, Aliners have hard sides. Newer models even have additional pop-out sections at the base of the A shape to allow more headroom closer to the front and back. With an Aliner you get all of the benefits of a pop-up camper without the added hassle of having to maintain canvas.

The Aliner I bought is a 2002 Aliner Classic model. The layout has a rear dinette that folds down into a 56″ x 76″ bed, and two 40″ x 76″ inch bunks in the front. The middle of the cabin features a small kitchen area with a sink, refrigerator, and gas stovetop.

When I was searching for an Aliner, I wasn’t even aware that the bunk layout existed, but I really like the flexibility of being able to sleep 4 people if needed (so long as one of those people is not claustrophobic). I will primarily use the bottom bunk for storage most of the time, and there is a nice, big portal door to the exterior of the lower bunk that will make it easy to load and unload.

Other key features include:

  • Under 2000 lbs dry weight
  • 11 gallon water tank and pump for the sink
  • Lots of storage
  • Tall ceilings make it feel roomy
  • Propane can be used to power the heater, stove, and fridge if desired
  • Built in power converter to run electrical (lights, fridge, outlets) from either a battery or shore power

I am looking forward to remodeling my Aliner and will add content as I make progress. Below is the gallery of what it looked like the day I purchased.

Happy Glamping!

I love your remodel! Thank you for sharing. I’ve been keeping my eye out for an aliner after seeing one recently. How much did you pay for yours when you bought it?

$4200. I have seen some in better condition for cheaper, but they get snatched up pretty quickly.
