Pull-out drawers for my Aliner Kitchen

When you camp in a tiny camper, you find out pretty quickly how to maximize the potential of your limited storage space. I thought I would share a storage solution I installed in my Aliner that added pull-out drawers underneath my kitchen counter top. If you have an Aliner with the same cabinet as mine, you should be able to implement this storage trick in just a few quick steps.

Below is the Kitchen cabinet in my 2002 Aliner Classic. Directly below the sink there are two small cabinet doors that open to the empty cavity space below the sink.

In their original state, there was no shelving to store smaller items, and I was looking for a functional solution like pull-out drawers that would allow quick and easy access to items stored under in the cabinet. This began a search across Amazon to find something that would work for both cabinets based on their dimensions.

The bigger of the two cabinet doors revealed a space about 21″h x 7 7/8″l x 14.5″w. The smaller cabinet opening is 8.5″w x 8.5″l x 14″w. It is also important to note that each cabinet has about a 1″ tall ‘lip’ that a drawer would need to clear.

After scouring drawer system specs on Amazon for a few days, I found a stackable drawer system that met most of my dimension requirements (more on this in a bit).

The listed dimensions for this drawer system fit all of my requirements except for the clearance of the ‘lip’ at the bottom of the cabinets. In order to get around this, I decided to add a cabinet bottom using some left over 1/2″ plywood I had on hand. In the absence of spare plywood, any scrap wood could be used to act as a platform under the drawer frame to raise it up at least 1/2 inch.

I ended up buying two of these items; one for the larger cabinet which has plenty of height for both drawers, and one for the smaller cabinet that works if you remove the removable top drawer. These are such a perfect fit that you will actually have to assemble them inside the cabinet space, just a head’s up.

The end result turned out better than I could had hoped and provides a functional storage system that almost feels custom made for the Aliner.
